Artur Janosz secures maiden win in Portimão

The Euroformula Open has discovered a new talent today, as Artur Janosz (RP Motorsport) has claimed his maiden win in the series after an astonishing performance at the Autódromo do Algarve. He capitalized each and every chance and, after 19 laps, Janosz reached his target in the Euroformula Open: to win. Sandy Stuvik (RP Motorsport) started on the pole position after another brilliant qualifying session ahead of Stuvik. On lap one, Stuvik and Janosz avoided any clash unlike other drivers such as Yarin Stern (Team West-Tec), Andrés Saravia (RP Motorsport), Che-One Lim (Emilio de Villota Motorsport) or Nici Pohler (Team West-Tec), they all retired. Stuvik and Janosz pulled away, with Cameron Twynham (Team West-Tec), Yu Kanamaru (Emilio de Villota Motorsport), Alex Palou (Campos Racing) and Tanart Sathienthirakul (Team West-Tec) running third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively and fighting at every corner. Today´s race was looking promising for Stuvik but, on lap eight, safety car was deployed and just one lap later Thailand´s driver pitted to fix mechanical problems. Although he rejoined the race, his chances definitively disappeared when he was given a drive-through penalty. Janosz, when the safety car headed into the pit-lane, pulled away again immediately. He won the race almost five seconds ahead of Kanamaru, finally second after a brilliant battle fought against Palou for almost the entire race, with Campos Racing driver third. Twynham, running in third place before the safety car period, finally came in fourth, with Konstantin Tereschenko (Campos Racing) fifth at his best. Sathienthirakul ended sixth, and Sean Walkinshaw (Campos Racing) ranked 7th. Gerardo Nieto (DAV Racing) and Saud Al Faisal were 8th and 10th respectively on their debut with Dallaras F312, sandwiching Wei Fung Thong. Sandy Stuvik finished 12th behind Constantino Peroni (RP Motorsport), who took Cup honors with his Dallara F308.
